Choosing between WordPress, Webflow and a custom website is not about choosing the “best” technology. It is about deciding which tool makes the most sense for a particular project. All three options can produce a good website. The difference lies in the level of control, speed, maintenance, customisation and complexity each business needs.
WordPress
WordPress is a flexible and widely used option. Its ecosystem supports themes, plugins and custom development, allowing it to adapt to many types of sites. It is particularly useful when a CMS needs a lot of content flexibility or when the team managing the website already knows the platform. That flexibility, however, also requires attention to updates, plugins, security and performance.
Webflow
Webflow combines CMS, visual design and development in one platform. It allows highly customised sites without relying on a traditional template structure and offers considerable control over design. It can be a good alternative for companies looking for an editorial, company or marketing website with relatively simple content management.
Custom development
A custom website makes sense when a project needs behaviours, integrations or an architecture that an existing platform cannot handle well. It offers the most freedom, but also requires more planning and development. It should not be chosen simply because it “sounds more professional”. If an existing solution solves the problem properly, developing from scratch can add unnecessary cost and complexity.
Which should you choose?
The decision should start with the project, not a technology preference. A company website can work perfectly well with Webflow. A site with specific editorial needs can benefit from WordPress.
